This is it. This is the scent that started it all.
Around two decades ago, I was smitten by an oil from Jayapura that sent me spiraling down the oud rabbit hole. That was the oil that first inspired me to commission customized distillations, and then later conduct my own distillations.
Since that time though, I was unable to get my hands on good Jayapuran wood for distilling. Manokwari, Merauke, Mamberamo, and other areas of the island turned out to be easier to get good wood from.
Then along came our supplier of Malinau wood one day, and mentioned he had a small stock of Jayapura wood. When I saw it, I couldn't believe my eyes. Magnificent, genuine, awesome wood fit for crafting our top shelf royal-level oud oils.
The wood was split into different pots for distilling this oil, as well as it's Gen3 sister (to be released in the future).
Agar Noir is the Gen4 oil, and I want YOU to experience the scent that gave me the unquenchable thirst for oud.
Scent-profile-wise, this oil is identical to the original catalyst.
As for the complexity of the scent... needless to say, since this is a royal-level oil, it is replete with indescribable richness.
If there's a scent one would imagine oud to smell like, having never smelled oud before, this is it.
An inky black woodiness serves as the backdrop for the entire scent palette from the opening to the drydown (remember the smell when you crack open a bottle of Parker Quink?).
There are notes of black tea, tulsi (sweet basil), and a sweet pine-like woodiness but devoid of the sharpness of pine. A touch of licorice.
And all this dressed in satin black.
In the 1980's, thanks to the pioneer Mr. Thebez (who was singlehandedly responsible for bringing oud from Papua island to the world), the ruling class of the Middle East was suddenly able to replenish their stocks of top shelf oud oils, whose quality had slowly been waning for decades and the good stuff was Indian oud they inherited from their grandfathers.
This new generation of top top shelf oud oils was only accessible to a small circle of the ultra elite. With the recent demise of the Sultan Qaboos of Oman in 2020, many were suddenly able to access such oils.
If you've smelled Sultan Qaboos' oils, Agar Aura will instantly remind you of them (and at 1/3rd the price). After all, the Gen4 distillation technique was specifically designed to capture that sort of scent genre. But richer and more 'alive'.
And that's what Agar Noir is.
This is the scent of the finest vintage Jayapura oud oil you could get your hands on, and made more vibrant, richer, more complex all around.
The yield was close to double what I had anticipated (higher yield = lower cost per gram), and so the savings get passed on to you.
Want to know what the elite of the Arabian peninsula smell like (no, it is NOT barnyard oud - they detest that smell), or better yet... want to scent yourself with that aroma? Look no further than Agar Noir.
I think I might sell my soul
for this. Oh my lord.
I swear to you when I say, it literally smells so awesome
it makes me have the same feeling you get when you smoke
the absolute perfect cigar. That welling up inside
feeling. Wow...
I sincerely can’t believe it. Sounds like the ravings of a
crazy person but it’s true.
Truly magical things are so rare...especially when you get
to be our age. I think it only comes when your children do
things that blow your mind...otherwise, it’s a very rare
instance that any “product” has that type of impact.

The other oil I've spent some time with is Cintaku and I
really like the pretty cola.

Cintaku is next level ... dont know how Royal Malaya was
but Cintaku is one of the best Malay if not the best Malay
...
D.P. (India)
Cintaku is 🤯 That is the Bomb
I found Cintaku kind of a shapeshifter ... between that
green Malaya note and Cola note.
It has more cola vibe than Malaya ... atleast to my nose
D.P. (India)
man cintaku is smelling nice tonight...
I even enjoy it a bit more than makhota in some aspects
T.D. (USA)
Cintaku is more of a mysterious green blue jungle scent
with cola like nuances and crushes peppers from another
planet.

Today I applied Cintaku. Mashallah very different. Has
some like boiling milk profile. Has also green tone

Yeah - so cintaku is obviously royal grade when compared
to mulia and high sik - it is more rich - very interesting
how the three relate.
I will have to do a 3 way comparison soon.
Mulia is still a beast - but the Royal grade is more
refined and beautiful.
