What you've got here is arguably the rarest batch of oud
ever distilled.
The raw material was harvested by Agar Aura ethically and
legally from the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, and the
wood was quite possibly from trees up to 500 years old.
You read that correctly.
The 8 trees that we decided to harvest were standing dead.
The bark was gray, and the leaves were long gone. I always
stressed the importance of leaving young trees alone and
allowing them to grow older, whenever I would train the team.
Cutting a living tree meant they'd lose their job.
Forget about 'mother trees', these were more like great great
grandmother trees.
What does that mean? Tons of aging of the oleoresin inside the
tree, while it was both alive and dead. This gave me the most
ambiently aromatic batch of agarwood I have ever distilled.
Simply opening the container the wood was being stored in would
perfume the entire room.
And then there's the medicinal / mind-bending / 'Z-axis' factor.
In a day and age when its increasingly more common to find oils
extracted from 5-10 year old trees plaguing the market, Pilipinas
No.1 stands in stark contrast. This isn't just perfume.
This is medicine.
The rarest highest quality batches of wood, ambiently
aromatic batches, give us the likes of Ceylon No.1,
New Guinea No.1, and Royal Malinau. Now double,
triple or possibly even quadruple the amount of aging that
occurred inside the trees before they were harvested...
Yes, this is one insane mind-bending potion.
What does it smell like, you ask? Its hard to compare it to
anything else. Perhaps the closest similitude would be a cross
between New Guinea and Brunei. But that accounts for only, say,
60% of the scent profile. The remaining scent notes are unique
and unlike anything else.
Jungly green, sweet vanillic, dark woody, minty, and
surprisingly even possessing a creamy sandalwoody character.
More importantly though, then there's the medicinal,
mind-bending quality. As can be expected, considering the grade
and quality of the raw material, its off the charts.
If you managed to pick up some of our raw Filipino
wood, you'll be delighted to find that this oil
smells absolutely identical to it. Just be sure to heat the wood
according to the Gen3 method (read
more here).
Pilipinas No.1 is a true collector's item, in every sense of the
word. If you're after the finest and rarest, you need not look
further.
